The New Map by Daniel Yergin: Navigating Power, Politics and Energy

Ever wondered if the world’s map is drawn not by borders but by barrels of oil! Working in the energy sector, I’ve always found it thrilling about this complex yet critical industry, often described as the driving force behind the global economy. When we think about the energy sector, oil is the predominant commodity that comes to our mind - the precious and non-renewable resource the world has been so obsessed with since its commercial discovery in late 1850s.  However, it’s striking how a resource that took millions of years to form and centuries to discover is now being consumed so rapidly. Over the past decade, we have often read and been informed that this “oil”, so crucial to our lives, will soon be depleted, and the world must find alternate ways to meet its ever-growing energy demands. Interestingly, I came across this esoteric red book, The New Map by Daniel Yergin while seeking insights into the history and transition of oil which now stands as one of my enriching reads o...

Book Review: The Shortest History of India by John Zubrzycki

Back in my middle school ICSE days, as I recall, science and geography used to set my imagination on fire, but history…to me...felt rather unassuming! It lived quietly in the corner, never demanding much attention. Trudging through the chapters that marched dutifully from ancient to medieval to modern India felt less like learning and more like serving a five year sentence—right up until matriculation. Although, I had the pleasure of revisiting various periods of our history through some magnificent books but anticipating them all in a single book cover seemed unimaginable. Discovering John Zubrzycki ’s latest creation, The Shortest History of India felt like opening a window in the room I had sat in for years and viewing the drama unfold in all its panoramic splendour. Suddenly, the nation’s iconic—yet complex and grave— the story of “India” came alive, infused with fresh energy and unexpected charm. I’m sure a few of the book lovers must have read it. But if you’re still on the fe...

Growing, Adapting, and Leading into a Bold New Future

Change is inevitable, it has always been! Human history has been shaped by major disruptive transformations that changed the way we think, live and work.  The  Agricultural Revolution  was one of the first, shifting humanity from nomadic lifestyles to settled farming communities, paving the way for civilizations. The  Industrial Revolution  brought machinery and mass production, transforming economies and societies with unprecedented speed and scale. More recently, the  Digital Revolution  has reshaped communication, business, and daily life through the rise of computers, the internet, and artificial intelligence. Now, we stand at the cusp of the  AI and Automation Era , where rapid technological advances promise to redefine industries, education, and the very nature of work. Each of these disruptions not only brought progress but also demanded adaptability and innovation — key qualities that remain vital today. Today in these myriads of complex n...

Moral of the Story!

Last night after another hectic day, I managed to get some quiet time with my little one. As I was putting her to sleep, she said, "Mumma, aapne bahut dino se mujhe story nai sunai". As a dutiful and loving mother, I quickly made up an alter version of the famous rabbit and tortoise story and shared with her. As usual we had the moral of the story time and when I asked her she promptly smiled, "Mumma, moral of this story is we must help each other!" Satisfied and glad , I caressed her and said it's sleeping time now! B eing herself she was in no mood to let go off me soon, so she quickly jumped and said, "Mumma one more story pls . "  Aah, it was my turn to act cute, so I lovingly said, " Baby, it’s your turn to tell a story to Mumma!" , t o which she happily agreed. Then she started, once upon a time there were two best friends, a tiger and a cheetah....And as she went on, exhausted and sleepless over the last few days, my mind star...
